Do I need to provide proof of address to apply for an eSIM?

A: Yes.
In accordance with relevant regulations of Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, when applying for a Japanese phone number, the contract holder must provide proof of their current address in the country that issued their passport for identity and address verification.

The proof of address must include both the contract holder’s name and current address.

  • Driver’s license
  • Family register certificate
  • Tax-related documents issued by a government agency
  • Utility bills (electricity, gas, water, etc.)
  • Credit card or bank statements, etc.

If you would like the eSIM information sent to a hotel in Japan:
Please provide both:
① Hotel reservation confirmation showing the contract holder’s name and stay dates
② Proof of current address

eSIM activation information will be sent by email. No physical SIM card will be shipped.
